Chicago Pediatric Intensive Care Physicians Join Pediatrix's National Group
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2003--Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc., (NYSE:PDX) has completed the acquisition of a seven-member physician group practice that provides pediatric intensive care services in the Chicago metropolitan market.
The physicians in the practice staff three hospital-based pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) and also provide pediatric hospitalist care. Combined historical patient volume exceeds 8,000 annual patient days. Pediatrix paid cash for the physician group practice and the transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings per share. Specific terms were not disclosed.
Pediatrix employs more than 30 pediatric intensivists who staff PICUs at hospitals located in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, West Virginia and Puerto Rico.
With this transaction, Pediatrix continues to expand its national group of physicians focused on maternal-fetal, newborn and pediatric subspecialty care. In addition to the Chicago PICU group, during 2003 Pediatrix has acquired a pediatric cardiology physician group in West Palm Beach, FL, a neonatal physician group in Knoxville, TN, and was awarded a contract to manage a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Corpus Christi, TX. In addition, earlier this year Pediatrix acquired the nation's largest independent laboratory specializing in newborn metabolic screening.
