FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 1, 2015-- MEDNAX, Inc. (NYSE: MD), today announced the acquisition of Lakeshore Anesthesia Services, P.C., a private physician group practice based in Muskegon, Mich.

Lakeshore Anesthesia Services was established in 2009 with the merger of two regional anesthesia groups, West Coast Anesthesia, PLLC, and Anesthesia Associates of Muskegon, PLC, and physicians from the practice have been providing anesthesia services in the Muskegon market for more than 20 years. The practice employs 41 full-time clinicians (31 anesthesiologists and 10 anesthetists) that provide services at Mercy Health Muskegon’s Hackley and Mercy campuses, North Ottawa Community Hospital, Muskegon Surgery Center and Shoreline Vision Ambulatory Surgery Center. The practice’s anesthesia services include general anesthesia, neurosurgery (including spine), cardiac, vascular, pediatric, orthopedic and acute pain management for post-operative pain.

“Joining a physician-run national medical group positions us well for the future as it bolsters our credibility with our hospital partners and makes us stronger and more desirable in an increasingly competitive marketplace,” said Paul Chovaz, M.D., who will serve as medical director for the practice. “The combination of having access to anesthesia best practices as well as the support of MEDNAX’s back-office infrastructure and access to its research, education and quality initiatives will ultimately allow us to continue to provide the best patient care possible.”

This was a cash transaction, and it is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings. No additional terms of the transaction were disclosed.
