MEDNAX Announces Acquisition of Anesthesiology Practice in Virginia

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 1, 2015-- MEDNAX, Inc. (NYSE: MD), today announced the acquisition of Manassas Anesthesia Associates, P.C., a private physician group practice based in Manassas, Va.

Manassas Anesthesia Associates was incorporated in 1994 and employs 24 full-time clinicians (11 anesthesiologists and 13 anesthetists) that provide services at Prince William and Haymarket Medical Centers, as well as their affiliated ambulatory surgery centers. The practice’s anesthesia services include general anesthesia, orthopedic, vascular, obstetric, gynecologic and acute pain management for post-operative pain.

“The rationale for Manassas Anesthesiology Associates' decision to join MEDNAX is one of support. Although we consider our professional care of patients and coordination with the entire Health System rivaled by none, we are confident that having the support of a national medical group that is focused on research, education and quality initiatives will further enhance those services we provide to both our patients and our hospital partner,” said Ivan Harangozo, M.D., who will serve as medical director for the practice. “By aligning with MEDNAX, our practice now offers the local populace the benefits of the experience and resources of one of the nation’s largest anesthesiology networks.”

This was a cash transaction, and it is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings. No additional terms of the transaction were disclosed.
