MEDNAX Launches Audiology Institute: Nation’s Largest Provider of Newborn Hearing Screen Services Aims to Innovate the Care Delivery Model to Improve Patient Care and Access to Early Hearing Loss Identification, Diagnosis and Intervention

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 12, 2018-- MEDNAX, Inc. (NYSE:MD), the nation’s largest provider of newborn hearing screen services, has launched the MEDNAX Audiology Institute, which will promote innovation and collaboration across all aspects of pediatric hearing loss – early detection, diagnosis and treatment – as well as quality and access to care. With more than 25 years of success providing newborn hearing screens, and built upon a well-established infrastructure that supports research, education, quality and safety initiatives, MEDNAX is uniquely positioned to explore opportunities to improve each phase of care for children with hearing loss.

Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc., a MEDNAX subsidiary, is the nation’s largest provider of maternal-fetal, newborn and pediatric subspecialty services. Through the Pediatrix Newborn Hearing Screen Program, MEDNAX screens more than 850,000 newborns in over 30 states and over 430 hospitals annually. To date, the program has screened more than seven million babies nationwide.

The development of the MEDNAX Audiology Institute was fueled not only by MEDNAX’s hearing screen success, but the need for a more comprehensive, collaborative and integrated approach to advance the treatment of pediatric hearing loss. Early identification and timely audiology assessment provides a crucial opportunity for infants to receive prompt intervention, which can dramatically increase their quality of life.

“We look forward to partnering with organizations that have a shared passion for leading improvements along the pediatric hearing loss care continuum,” said Jillian Gerstenberger, AuD, MBA, Associate Director of Research, Education, Quality & Safety for Hearing Screen/Clinical Manager, Newborn Hearing Screen Program. “As we address the current challenges impacting the field of pediatric hearing health, we look to enhance the future of care through collaborations with other likeminded organizations, leveraging telehealth, precision medicine and artificial intelligence to continue driving improvements in early identification, diagnosis and intervention for all patients.”
