Pediatrix Acquires Louisiana Neonatal Physician Practice
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2008--Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc. (NYSE: PDX), has expanded its national group practice of neonatal physicians with the acquisition of a practice based in Alexandria, Louisiana.
The practice, which covers the Level III regional neonatal intensive care unit at Rapides Regional Medical Center, has volume of approximately 8,000 annual patient days, and has grown in recent years along with economic development in the region.
"We're seeing more and more patients transported from outside of Alexandria as well as increased volume from an expanding obstetrical staff at our hospital," said Robert E. Schroeder, M.D., who has directed patient care at the NICU, and now serves as Pediatrix's medical director at Rapides Regional. "As part of Pediatrix we'll have access to a clinical database that will help us to enhance the delivery of evidence-based medicine to our patients."
Pediatrix paid for this practice acquisition with cash and expects it will contribute to earnings immediately. During 2008, Pediatrix has acquired eight physician group practices, including neonatal, maternal-fetal, pediatric cardiology and anesthesia practices.
