Pediatrix Acquires Neonatal Practice in Southern California
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2006--Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc. (NYSE: PDX), the nation's leading provider of neonatal, maternal-fetal and pediatric subspecialty physician services, today announced the acquisition of a neonatal physician group practice based in Lancaster, California, located in northeastern Los Angeles County.
The physician group provides neonatal services at Antelope Valley Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The three-physician practice has annual patient volume in excess of 7,000 NICU patient days and more than 5,000 newborn nursery patient days.

Thangavel, M.D., who will serve as Pediatrix's Medical Director for the practice. Later this summer, Antelope Valley Hospital (AVH) will open a new Women and Infants Pavilion, which includes an expanded NICU. For the fifth consecutive year, AVH has received HealthGrades "Five Star" rating, indicating it has scored in the top 15 percent in the nation for clinical excellence in maternity care. The hospital also received the HealthGrades 2006/2007 Maternity Care Excellence Award(TM).
Pediatrix paid cash for the practice and the transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings.
