FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2002--Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc., (NYSE:PDX), continues to expand its national group practice, completing the acquisition yesterday of a neonatal physician group practice based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
    The seven physicians in the Charlotte practice staff four hospital-based neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in that city and its surrounding communities. The four NICUs have annual patient volume in excess of 15,000 patient days. The transaction marks Pediatrix's entry into North Carolina. Pediatrix already staffs an NICU in nearby Rock Hill, South Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte.
    During 2002, Pediatrix has completed three physician group practice acquisitions, located in Memphis, TN, Columbia, SC, and Charlotte, NC, and was awarded a contract to provide neonatal physician services at a hospital in San Angelo, TX.
