FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 2012--
MEDNAX, Inc., (NYSE: MD) today announced the acquisition of a group of
pediatric hospitalists based in Orlando, Florida. The addition to
MEDNAX’s Pediatrix Medical Group division brings 11 physicians and nine
other clinical and administrative staff to the national group practice.
The pediatric hospitalist group provides newborn nursery care and
inpatient pediatric services at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and
Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando. The Pediatrix
division of MEDNAX is an established provider of neonatology services at

“As a leading hospitalist practice in the Orlando area, we knew that
with the changing future of healthcare, it would be ideal to partner
with a national medical group practice,” said Dianna Brozyna, M.D., who
will serve as medical director for the practice. “Being a part of
Pediatrix and utilizing their infrastructure will allow us to focus on
always putting our patients first, and providing them with the highest
quality care.”
The physicians and employees joining as a result of this transaction
will now be part of MEDNAX’s Pediatrix Medical Group, a national group
practice consisting of the nation’s leading neonatal, maternal-fetal
medicine, pediatric cardiology, and other pediatric specialty physicians.
The practice was acquired for cash and the transaction is expected to be
immediately accretive to earnings. No additional terms of the
transaction were disclosed.
With this acquisition, 11 physician group practices have become part of
MEDNAX in 2012, six as part of Pediatrix Medical Group and five as part
of American Anesthesiology.
